2002 hit-and-run case: Sessions court to hear Salman Khan8217;s plea

Court wants Salman to be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.

A Mumbai sessions court will hear actor Salman Khan8217;s plea against a lower court8217;s order according to which he will be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

Salman8217;s Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle had rammed into a bakery in Bandra killing one and injuring four people who were sleeping on a pavement on September 28,2002.

In his petition,Salman Khan has called the magistrate8217;s order 8216;bad in law8217; and 8216;erroneous8217;.

Salman has always maintained that it was merely an accident and he did not have any intention to kill anyone.

The trial in the case began in 2005 and the prosecution has examined 11 witnesses. Two of the witnesses,including Salman8217;s guard Ravindra Patil and Ramasray Pandey who had witnessed the accident,turned hostile. With agency inputs
