Sushmita Sen not only won the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant, but also worked with Donald Trump back then. In a candid conversation with Mid-Day while promoting her television series Aarya, the Bollywood actor recalled the story of working with the current US President during her days as a franchise holder of Miss India Universe from 2010-12.

Talking about an offer that arrived when she was still working at Renee Jewellers and handling multiple endorsements, the Main Hoon Na actor said: “The Miss Universe Organisation called me, and said, ‘Would you like to take the franchise?’ I was like, ‘What? Really? That was like a dream!’ I signed a pretty intense contract when I took on this franchise, and that was owned by Donald Trump — which didn’t make it easy or fun.”

Declining that he was her boss at that time, Sen said: “Luckily, the only people who were my boss at that time were Paramount Communications and Madison Square Garden, because they owned Miss Universe when I was an employee of Miss Universe for a year. I was a franchise owner for Donald Trump.”

She shared that she met him because their franchise was associated with him. However, she dismissed any further probing into the matter, saying, “The point is that it doesn’t matter”, declaring sharply her negative opinion of the public figure.

While admitting that she met Trump on a few occasions, she refused to speak about him in any greater detail. “There are some people who leave an impression, not necessarily because of their achievements or power. Just for the people that they are. He is not one of them,” she added.

Navigating conflicts with colleagues at work

Conflicts among coworkers or bosses can have a negative impact on employee performance, morale, and well-being at the workplace, as well as the success and culture of the company as a whole. Such negative behaviour must be identified and addressed in order to create a happier, healthier workplace where employees can flourish and do their best.

Neha Bahri, CHRO, Bconnect Communications, told indianexpress.com that navigating toxicity in your workplace can be challenging, but it is essential for you to maintain professionalism and take care of your well-being. Here are some ways she recommends doing that:

Set limits: To safeguard your personal space, time, and energy, set clear limits with the toxic coworker. Set firm but polite boundaries for yourself and avoid getting caught up in their drama and bad behavior.

Focus on your work: Redirect your attention and energies toward your work activities and objectives. The negative effects of your toxic colleague’s behaviour on your output and morale might be reduced by focusing on your own obligations and priorities.

Maintain Professionalism: Always strive to act professionally, regardless of how your toxic coworker behaves. Stay away from conflicts and rumours, and concentrate on doing your best to complete your work obligations.

Look for Support: Ask mentors, supervisors, or other helpful coworkers for direction and advice on how to handle the toxic coworker. Talking about your experiences with someone you can trust can help you find perspective, coping mechanisms, and validation.

Self-help: Aside from work, look after your physical and mental health by taking part in activities that help you decompress, unwind, and take care of yourself. Despite the difficulties at work, hobbies, physical activity, and quality time with loved ones can help you decompress and keep a positive outlook.
