When Anushka Sharma shared she’s not into grand romantic gestures: ‘If I am struggling to open a water bottle…’

"I am not someone who is into grand romantic gestures at all," Anushka Sharma once said

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are perhaps each other’s biggest cheerleaders. This was evident during the recently concluded Champions Trophy final in Dubai, where the duo was seen talking, laughing, and sharing some good moments after India’s win. Virat was also seen offering Anushka a bottle of water.

The heartwarming videos of their companionship made the internet dig up an old video of Anushka manifesting the love of her life. “I am not someone who is into grand romantic gestures at all. So, for me, it is the little things. It is just being attentive. It is just being caring. If I am struggling to open a water bottle, without me realising it, just taking the bottle from me, and opening it and giving it back to me. Very nonchalantly while watching TV. I think these things I notice way more than any big romantic gestures,” the PK actor can be seen saying in an undated video.

In our perpetually connected digital world where grand romantic gestures often create a buzz on social media feeds, the quiet power of small gestures of care remains underappreciated. “These micro-moments of attention create the foundation upon which lasting relationships are built,” said Dr Chandni Tugnait, psychotherapist, coach and healer, founder and director, Gateway of Healing.

“Small gestures trigger different emotional responses than grand displays. While extravagant gestures produce intense but short-lived excitement, consistent small acts of kindness create sustained feelings of connection and trust. This distinction explains why relationships built on consistent small gestures often demonstrate greater resilience over time,” added Dr Tugnait.

Simply, being receptive to a partner’s needs without explicit communication signals a deep level of connection that transcends superficial expressions of affection. “When someone anticipates your needs through small actions, they demonstrate an intimate understanding of your internal world,” shared Dr Tugnait.

Dr Tugnait shared that the “unscripted nature” of helping someone open a water bottle or offering medicine during illness speaks volumes precisely because these moments occur outside the spotlight.
