Youths ‘assaulted, asked their religion: ‘Sangeet Som Sena’ members demand arrest of accused

MEMBERS of Sangeet Som Sena, a non-political outfit formed by followers of Sangeet Som, the BJP legislator from Sardhana, staged a dharna at Sardhana crossing Monday afternoon demanding the arrest of four youths who allegedly “assaulted and looted” two local men after asking them about their religion late Sunday evening.

The activists, led by the Sena’s state chief, Sachin Khatik, lodged an FIR against Suhaib (24), Rehan (26) and two other unidentified persons at Sardhana police station and threatened to hit the streets if the accused were not arrested by Tuesday morning.

“Aman Saini (20) and Ajay Kumar (23) were on their way to a friend’s place Sunday evening when they were intercepted by four Muslim youths on Ikadi road in Sardhana. They first asked the two about their religion and then allegedly beat them up. The youths have also alleged that the accused snatched Aman’s phone and wallet. When they informed us about the incident, we took them to the police station to file the complaint,” Khatik said.

“Based on the complaint, we have arrested Suhaib, while raids are being conducted to nab Rehan and the other two. None will be allowed to arouse religious sentiments on any pretext,” said Santosh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sardhana).

When contacted, Sangeet Som said, “The outfit members staged a peaceful dharna to press for their demands. Muslim youths have not only assaulted but also looted the two locals.”
