“In the last 12 years of studying this area, I have recorded over 300 bird species. This year, due to increased rainfall, birds have arrived in particularly large numbers and are expected to stay for an extended period. Currently, there are approximately 2 to 2.5 lakh flamingos in the lake area,” he added.
Dadhich noted that the sight is drawing tourists, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers in significant numbers. “The lake itself is stunning, offering a panoramic view that complements the spectacle of the birds.”
Flamingos visit Sambhar Salt Lake as part of their annual migration along the Central Asian Flyway. They travel from regions in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, arriving between October and March to breed and feed in the lake’s saline waters. The lake’s shallow waters and abundant food make it an ideal stopover during their long migratory journey.
The Sambhar Salt Lake, located in Sambhar Lake Town in Jaipur district of Rajasthan, is India’s largest inland salt lake.
