An inquiry has been ordered after a video surfaced in which a couple is purportedly seen being assaulted by a former railway police officer inside a Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Saharanpur.
Police are trying to verify when the video was shot and to trace the couple seen in it. The officer in the video was identified as Ashok Kumar Dixit, who retired as circle officer GRP (Saharanpur) last month.
Additional Director General, Railways, Sanjay Singhal said, “I came to know about the video yesterday and directed SP, Railway (Moradabad) Subhash Chandra Dubey to conduct an inquiry. In the video, two persons are seen being beaten. Action would be taken on the basis of the inquiry report.”
“We are trying to find out for why the couple was brought to the police station and when. We are yet to get in touch with the couple to record their statement,” he said. Subhash Chandra Dubey could not be contacted.
Station House Officer, GRP (Saharanpur) Vijay Kumar said, “Dixit retired on October 31 and I joined the station on November 1. I have no knowledge about the incident. There is no complaint or case registered against the couple who are seen in the video.”
