VHP denied permission to hold Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri

The police have increased patrolling in the area. Last year communal violence broke out in Jahangirpuri during a Hanuman Jayanti procession, injuring nine people, including eight police officers.

The Delhi Police have denied permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and another Hindu organisation to carry out processions in Northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Thursday, officers said.

A senior police officer said that permission has been denied keeping in view of the “law and order” situation in the area.

DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Meena said that increased patrolling is being carried out in the area with several teams of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces conducting marches to ensure peace among the residents. “We have asked for more personnel to patrol the area throughout today and tomorrow in order to ensure that there is no breakout of violence,” the DCP said.

Last year communal violence broke out in the area on April 16 during a procession taken out for Hanuman Jayanti, injuring nine people, including eight police officers.
