As Assam and the national capital continue to reel under flooding after heavy rainfall, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Sunday targeted his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, saying that the state faces floods with “brave hearts” and “does not blame others.”
“Every year, we receive water from Bhutan, Arunachal, and even from China… We experience pain and misery beyond human imagination, yet we do not blame others. Because we know that nature does not recognize geography,” Sarma said in a tweet about the flood-like situation in Delhi.

This week, several areas of the capital, including the Red Fort and posh localities, saw flooding as water levels in the Yamuna rose. On Sunday, Kejriwal stated that the water had receded from most areas, and other areas will see return to normalcy soon too. The Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has blamed the release of water from the Hathnikund barrage in BJP-ruled Haryana for the Capital going under.
Meanwhile, floods in Assam have affected over a lakh people, news agency PTI reported. Sarma said he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised him of the flood situation in the northeastern state.
On Saturday, Assam CM said that he was still waiting for Arvind Kejriwal’s invite to tour Delhi and see the “development in capital.”
“Kejriwal said he would invite me for a tour of Delhi. I have been waiting for six months for his invite so that I can see what kind of development he has undertaken in the capital,” he added.
Sarma and Kejriwal have been trading charges over the development of the state. During his first state visit in April, Kejriwal invited Sarma to Delhi to see the development in the national capital. “When you (Sarma) come to Delhi, please come to my house for tea. If you have more time, come for a meal. I will also take you around to show you the great schools and hospitals we have made in Delhi,” Kejriwal said.
A day later, Sarma retorted, “He has invited me for lunch. As soon as I receive a formal letter, I will go for lunch.”
