Police identified her as Riddhi Tripathi and said she committed suicide by hanging herself. An officer from the Powai police station said, “Tripathi had written answers on chits which was noticed by the examiner while collecting the answersheets. After the incident, the examiner snatched the sheet and asked her to leave.”
Senior police inspector Anil Pophale from Powai police station confirmed the incident and said, “We have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting an investigation. We were informed that she was caught cheating during her examination due to which she took the extreme step.”
The victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared dead.
Jean Gomes, principal of Michael High School, Kurla West, said, “On Monday, a teacher caught her with chits during the exams and brought her to me. We tried to reach the girl’s parents on phone but they were available. So we sent her home with a note to her parents.” According to Gomes, none of the teachers reprimanded the girl and she was later assured that she could re-attempt the paper later.
