Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Monday moved a notice in the Lok Sabha to initiate privilege proceedings against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju over a remark made by him against the MP on Friday, December 13, in the House, The Indian Express has learnt.

The notice was reportedly submitted after Rijiju made a “threatening” remark in Parliament against Moitra while she was participating in a debate on 75 years of Indian Constitution

Minister Rijiju had warned of action against Moitra over her reference to the death of judge B H Loya, a matter that was already settled by the Supreme Court.

The Indian Express has learnt that the Opposition members were unhappy over Rijiju’s “personal comments” against Moitra. Opposition members who have signed the notice were also unhappy about the minister making comments “about the character of a member of the House”. Leaders from the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party have signed the notice.

The decision to move the fresh notice comes just days after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday gave a notice to move a privilege motion against Rijiju, alleging that he made an objectionable remark about “Opposition members not being fit to be in Parliament”.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose said that she submitted the notice, which was signed by members of Opposition parties, demanding an apology from Rijiju and that his remark about Opposition members be expunged.
