The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s plea challenging the Madras High Court order deciding to re-examine his discharge in a disproportionate assets case.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and P K Mishra rejected the Special Leave Petition but said that the observations by the High Court in its order would have no bearing in finally deciding the criminal revision.
The AIADMK leader had approached the SC against the order of the Madras HC single-judge bench of Justice Anand Venkatesh, initiating suo motu revision of the order discharging him in the disproportionate assets case.
Appearing for him, senior advocate Jaideep Gupta pointed out it was a matter where the prosecution itself had withdrawn its case.
The SC, however, said it had gone through the HC order and found enough reasons “that would justify passing of such an order”.
