On speculations of him joining the BJP, Tharoor dismissed the idea citing ideological differences with the ruling party.
While addressing the issue of intra-party conflicts in the Congress, the Thiruvananthapuram MP said, “Some in my own party oppose me, but I speak for India and Kerala’s future.” He further insisted that despite facing criticism, he is loyal to Congress and is willing to take on a larger role in the party if required.
Speaking about his political future, Tharoor refrained from making any definitive plans but reiterated his commitment towards public service.
“I didn’t enter politics as a career,” Tharoor emphasized, highlighting his background in the United Nations before being invited by Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, to join electoral politics.
While he has already announced that this will be his last parliamentary campaign, the senior Congress leader said that he remains open to contributing in various capabilities. “If the party wants to utilize my strengths, I’ll be there. If not, I have other options,” he said, referring to his writing and global speaking engagements.
When it comes to ideological leanings, Tharoor said that he has always been a classic liberal. “I oppose communalism and believe in social justice alongside economic growth,” he stated.
Reflecting on his personal life, he revealed that while his mother encourages him to remarry, he is content with his current phase. “God hasn’t made me feel the need for it now,” he remarked.
