The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Arun Palli, a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as the Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh HC.
The decision comes in view of current Chief Justice Tashi Rabtan’s retirement on April 9.
Born on September 18, 1964, Justice Palli completed his LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1988, and commenced legal practice at the Punjab and Haryana HC. During his tenure there, he dealt with cases across civil, criminal, constitutional, industrial and labour laws.
Justice Palli served as the Additional Advocate General of Punjab from September 2004 to March 2007. Following this, he was designated a senior advocate in April 2007.
He was elevated to be a part of the Punjab and Haryana HC bench on December 28, 2013.
Justice Palli has been serving as the Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Service Authority since May 31, 2023. He was also nominated as a member of the National Legal Services Authority on October 31, 2023, for a period of two years.
