Sambhal Police on Tuesday arrested two more members of the interstate gang allegedly involved in a health insurance fraud.

The arrests were made in connection with a case registered on the complaint of a woman, Sarvesh, whose husband died of a kidney ailment, police said.

She said, “We have been working against the members of the interstate insurance gang… we have arrested 18 people so far.”

On Monday, The Indian Express had reported how the gang had taken an insurance policy in the name of Sravesh’s husband Mukesh, opened an account in her name as the beneficiary of the policy, submitted a fake death certificate, and pocketed the money.

Police said the accused told them that Mukesh suffered from a kidney ailment and the chance of his survival were meagre. The accused told the police that when Mukesh was alive, they took him to Bareilly and bought an insurance policy in his name.

“Danish works as an investigator for the East India Investigating company and he hid all the medical documents of Mukesh and claimed that he died of a heart attack,” Sharma said. The accused allegedly pocketed Rs 9.9 lakh after the death of Mukesh, police said.
