‘No wonder Rahul Gandhi in awe of China’: BJP hits back after Sam Pitroda says ‘unfair to see neighbouring nation as enemy’

Congress leader Sam Pitroda said that the India-China border dispute was "blown out of proportion" by the United States, as the country has a habit of "defining enemies."

Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda has once again courted a controversy with his remark that the India-China issue has been “blown out of proportion” by the United States, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hitting back, accusing the Congress party of “ceding away India’s land” to the neighbouring country.

While speaking to news agency IANS, the IOC chief said, “I don’t understand the threat from China. I think this issue is often blown out of proportion because the US has the habit of defining an enemy. I believe the time has come for all nations to collaborate, not confront.”

His remarks came after US President Donald Trump offered to mediate the border dispute between India and China during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington DC.

This offer, however, was rejected by India, saying that they choose to apply a bilateral approach to the issue.

Pitroda further criticised India’s stance on the dispute with China, saying that this sort of “attitude creates enemies.”

“We need to change this pattern. To assume that China is the enemy is not fair. Not just to China, but to everyone. It is time for us to learn to increase communication. Collaborate, cooperate and co-create and not just command and control,” the veteran Congress leader said.

BJP was quick to hit back at the Sam Pitroda, accusing Rahul Gandhi of “being in awe” of China and rooting for the neighbouring country’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Party’s national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha posted on X, “Those who ceded away 40000 square km of our land to China, still see no threat from the Dragon.. no wonder Rahul Gandhi is in awe of China and was rooting for BRI one day before the IMEEC was announced .. the crux of Cong party’s obsessive fascination for China, lies hidden in the mysterious 2008 Cong-CCP MOU.”

In a press conference on Monday, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi attacked Pitroda over his remarks, saying that his comments on China symbolises the mindset of the Congress. It is a blow to India’s prestige, Trivedi said, claiming it appears from his comments that as if India is the aggressor.
