More than 7,000 investors, who were defrauded by the Ponzi firm Rose Valley, were given `10,200 each in the first-ever restitution of funds in the case, the Enforcement Directorate said Friday. The Asset Disposal Committee (ADC) handed out the funds to the first set of people in Kolkata Thursday.

“The first phase of the long-awaited restitution process has begun, with 7,346 depositors receiving refunds at a rate of `10,200 per claimant, totalling `5.12 crore in the disbursed fund,” an ED spokesperson said.

According to ED, the move to return the funds to the duped investors and victims of frauds like Ponzi, chit fund and fake investment schemes came about after a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Kolkata ordered for the same in August, enabling the release of Rs 19.40 crore to the ADC, marking the beginning of a systematic repayment plan.
