School teachers clash with police,several injured

Several teachers,agitating for govt recognition to their schools,were injured when police cane charged them and lobbed teargas shells after their protest turned violent.

Several teachers,agitating for government recognition to their schools,were ton Monday injured when police cane charged them and lobbed teargas shells after their protest turned violent.

Over a thousand teachers,including women,of private schools had gathered to stage the protest and started pelting stones and attempted to storm into the secretariat in the Last Gate area of Dispur,sources said.

Consequently,police fired in the air,lobbed tear gas shells and lathicharged agitating teachers,injuring several of them,the sources said.

The teachers were demanding government recognition of their schools and payment of salary.

Some journalists covering the protest also received minor injuries during the lathi charge.

Police have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in the area and have taken the teachers to Basistha police station.
