Politics over the death of National Conference worker intensified today with the opposition PDP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his ministers while the government termed the charges as unfounded conjectures.
PDP leader Muzzafar Hussain Beig said Omar, his close aide and minister Nasir Aslam Wani and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah should resign pending a judicial probe into the mysterious death of a National Conference worker.
“They must resign. So long as they remain in power, they will manufacture evidence. They will attempt to coerce, cajole or bribe witnesses,” Beig told reporters here.
Syed Mohammad Yousuf,an NC worker from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, died allegedly in police custody after two fellow party workers had accused him of taking Rs 1.18 crore from them for getting them berths in the Legislative Council.
In a statement, government spokesman said Beig’s “statement laced with speculative, unfounded conjectures beyond the stated facts is baseless and a figment of his imagination which does not deserve to be taken cognizance of.”
He further said the state government and the chief minister were committed to a transparent, credible probe of the incident “and that was why a judicial probe by a Judge of the High Court has been ordered to unravel the truth.”
The spokesman said after the inquiry the “truth shall prevail and lies would perish.
