The National Conference dismissed irresponsible and baseless remarks made by Ram Jethmalani about the functioning of the state government, saying the huge turnout in Jammu Kashmir panchayat polls vindicates its stand.
State where 80 per cent of the electorate is participating in panchayat elections to establish a democratic system at the grass root level can by no stretch of imagination be termed as Nazi rule, a spokesman of the ruling NC said in a statement.
Noted jurist Ram Jethmalani, who is heading the Kashmir Committee, was quoted in local newspapers as having said that governance in Kashmir was akin to Nazi rule.
Ram Jethmalani,Arundhati Roy and Gautam Navlakha at the behest of political mercenaries like Madhu Kishwar visit Kashmir to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere, he said.
Jethmalani, who was on a five-day visit to Valley along with other members of the committee,on Tuesday said he was not satisfied with the governance in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that police abused its powers by indulging in indiscriminate arrests.
The Jethmalani-led committee was formed during the Prime Ministership of A B Vajpayee in 2002 to open a channel of dialogue.
