Five security personnel killed by Naxals in C’garh

At least three Naxals are also believed to have been killed in the exchange of fire.

FIVE security personne,including two from the Border Security Force (BSF),were killed today when armed Maoists ambushed the forces while they were on an area domination mission in the forests near Bhuski village near Pakhanjur in kanker district of Chhattisgarh.

“The gun battle that followed the ambush is now over. Two BSF personnel,two policemen from the district police and a special police officer were killed in the incident”,Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) T J Longkumeer confirmed.

He said the incident took place in the morning when the security personnel were on an area domination mission near Bhuski village. The rebels ambushed the security personnel,leading to an encounter with the rebels.

A helicopter has been pressed into service to airlift the injured security personnel while an additional reinforcement has been sent to the area to carryout combing operations in the nearby forests. The rebels had also blocked roads at several places in the area. “ Security personnel have to move to the area very cautiously in view of the possibility of landmine attacks hence it could take time to reach the spot”,a police spokesman said in the state capital.
