A day after a separatists- sponsored shutdown, life returned to normal in Kashmir Valley as shops and businesses opened and vehicles plied on roads.
However,Pulwama town,32-km from here, observed a general strike, called by the traders,to protest what they said “highhandedness” of security forces towards the business community.
Marketplaces bustled with people as shops and business establishments opened today,a day after a shutdown called by the hardline Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Vehicles plied normally on roads and at many places traffic snarls were witnessed.
A police spokesman said the situation throughout the Valley was normal with no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere.
Hardliner Geelani has also toned down his protest calendar exempting three days in the next week from the purview of strikes and protests.
The Valley is witnessing protests and shutdowns after the killing of a teenager here on June 11 allegedly in police action.
