Court work affected in Kashmir Valley

Lawyers went on a day-long strike to press for their demand for continuation of the registration powers of the legal documents with the civil courts.

Work in courts across the Kashmir valley was today affected as the lawyers went on a day-long strike to press for their demand for continuation of the registration powers of the legal documents with the civil courts.

High Court and subordinate courts were badly hit as lawyers abstained from work in response to the strike called by the High Court Bar Association (HCBA),officials said.

The HCBA had decided to observe a day-long strike today against the proposed government move to transfer the registration powers from civil courts to revenue authorities.

“HCBA reiterates its stand that the proposed government move is unacceptable to the Bar Association, which will resist such a move and will take all possible measures in this behalf,” a spokesman of the association told reporters after a meeting on Saturday.
