Cadet drowns,Havildar dies of cardiac arrest at IMA

A cadet and a Havildar died in two different incidents at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on Monday morning.

In the first instance Cadet Sahu PV of the ACC Wing drowned in the swimming pool. He had gone for his swimming classes and had comfortably swum during the classes. It was only while taking the final dive that the 23-year-old Sahu did not surface.

According to an IMA spokesperson,” A life diver and others dived into the pool and he was brought out. He was given resuscitation and was being transported to the hospital when he died.”

IMA authorities say that he had cleared his swimming tests in the first term and even on Monday morning he had done the 50 metre length.” Sahu hailed from Marath Nayanad in Wynad district of Kerala.

He was a good athlete and was a medal winner in the cross country event. A Court of Inquiry has been set up in the matter.

In the second instance Havildar Ram Gude Nagesh complained of chest pain while playing basketball after his routine physical training drill. He died of cardiac arrest while being shifted to the military hospital. The 36-year-old Nagesh was from 22 Maratha Light Infantry.
