Army officer injured in gun-battle in Kashmir

A Junior Commissioned Officer of Army was injured in a fierce gun-battle with militants in a forest in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Army was injured in a fierce gun-battle with militants in a forest in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district,a senior police officer said today.

The gun-battle broke out last night when security forces launched a search operation to track down the militants in the Krimur forest,100 kms from here,Superintendent of Police for Handwara Mohammad Aslam told PTI.

Militants,believed to be four in number,opened fire on the search party triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire in which a JCO,belonging to 21 Rashtriya Rifles,was injured,he said.

The militants,however,managed to escape from the spot,he said.
