‘Accords signed during Clinton visit are imposition of US imperialism’

The CPM charged the EUMA and other accords signed during the recent visit of Hillary Clinton to Delhi was 'a plain and simple imposition' of US 'imperialist' agenda.

The CPI(M) today charged the End User Monitoring Agreement and other accords signed during the recent visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Delhi was “a plain and simple imposition” of American “imperialist” agenda and a “willing surrender” by UPA government.

Clinton’s visit “yielded substantial gains for US imperialism in roping in India as its subordinate ally” as the agreements covered many issues which “directly impinge upon India’s political and economic sovereignty and its independent foreign policy,” Politburo member leader Sitaram Yechury alleged.

In an editorial in the latest issue of ‘People’s Democracy’,he said there was “nothing bilateral” about the new architecture of the bilateral dialogue as elaborated by External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in Parliament.

“It is a plain and simple unilateral imposition of an agenda by US imperialism and a willing surrender by this UPA-2 government,” Yechury said.

Pointing out that the US media had spoken about American firms like Boeing and Lockheed Martin eyeing the 126 fighter jet contract of IAF,Yechury said US officials also estimated that sale of nuclear reactors following the Indo-US nuclear deal would represent an income of about USD ten billion to US firms like General Electric and Westinghouse.

For such deals,India was required to sign the ‘End Use Monitoring’ agreement,he said, adding this meant the US has the right to inspect all defence installations where equipment bought from these corporations were being used.
