Forty two powerful bombs were seized by police on Tuesday in the politically-sensitive Panoor locality in the district,where three persons were killed in recent clashes involving CPI-M and BJP workers.
A police team raiding the area in connection with the clashes found the explosives kept in a gunny bag under a canal bridge at Kutteri,about 35 KM from Kannur district,police said.
Police also recovered materials used for making bombs from an uninhabited house at nearby Poiloor.
Three persons were killed in Panoor locality since March 11 in a series of attacks with police registering cases against 80 CPM and BJP-RSS workers in connection with the incidents.
The district administration on March 12 had promulgated prohibitory orders for three days.
