Ranchi: Burnt body of B Tech student found inside house; police suspect rape

A burnt body of a B Tech student, in her early 20s, was found in her home under Sadar police station area of Ranchi on Friday morning. According to the police, the youngster may have been sexually assaulted before being killed. An FIR has also been registered, said the police. The incident came to light on Friday morning when the father of the victim, called her, but did not receive any response. In panic, when the father reached the house, he noticed smoke coming out from the house and saw the burnt body of her daughter, after which he immediately informed the authorities, said the police.

The police said that there was a possibility of somebody known to the victim being involved in the incident. However, the number of assailants, was yet to be ascertained, added the police.

The post-mortem report confirming sexual assault of the victim is awaited. However, the police states that the victim may have been strangled to death with an iron wire.
