Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kerala's Wayanad tomorrow (August 10), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he is confident the PM will declare the landslides in the district as a "national disaster." "Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision," Rahul posted on X. "I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster," he added. The Wayanad district was hit by a series of landslides on July 30, which claimed the lives of more than 300 people, leaving 138 missing. The PM is scheduled to visit the affected areas, and review the relief and rehabilitation efforts and interact with survivors, PTI news agency reported. According to officials, Modi will reach Kannur around 11 am and then undertake an aerial survey of the landslides-affected area in Wayanad. He will visit the relief camp and hospital and interact with the victims and survivors of the landslides. He will also chair a review meeting during which he will be briefed about the incident and the ongoing relief efforts.
