Pontiff accused of sexual assault quizzed by Karnataka CID

The pontiff appeared before the CID after a notice was served for his presence.

The pontiff of the Ramachandrapura Mutt Raghaveshwara Bharati Swami who has been accused of several offences including sexual assault on a singer was quizzed for five hours on Tuesday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Karnataka police.

The pontiff appeared before the CID after a notice was served for his presence. Raghaveshwara Bharathi was supposed to appear before the investigating officers on Monday but he sought a day’s time and appeared before investigators on Tuesday.

The CID questioned him regarding the allegations against him from around 2 till 7 pm. The pontiff’s advocate Shambhu Sharma said the seer has been cooperating with the police for the investigation. The seer has been asked to appear again before the CID on Wednesday.

The pontiff has been co-operating in the investigations since obtaining anticipatory bail recently. He has been accused of by the daughter of a a 47-year-old singer of sexually assaulting her mother. The daughter of the singer had filed the complaint about a month ago after her parents were arrested by the police for allegedly threatening the seer and his disciples.

According to the complaint against Raghaveshwara Bharati the seer who took the female singer along with him to various places to sing the Ramakatha allegedly sexually assaulted her at various times.

The pontiff’s supporters allegedly filed a false case against the singer and her husband to prevent them from approaching the police over the sexual assaults, the singer’s daughter has stated in her complaint. The Ramachandrapura Mutt has alleged that the singer’s family had filed a false case against the seer as a counter to the case registered against them.
