As over 116 people lost their lives in a stampede in UP’s Hathras on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to victims’ families and promised all possible help. PM Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 to those injured in the stampede.
While speaking in the Parliament, Modi said, “As I am speaking, there are reports of many people dying in the stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. I express my condolences to those who lost their lives in this accident and wish for the speedy recovery of those injured. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue work under the supervision of the state government. Senior officials of the Central government are in constant touch with the Uttar Pradesh government. I assure everyone through this House that the victims will be helped in every way possible.”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued instructions to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to those injured in the tragedy.
At least 116 people, mostly women, were killed in this stampede during a satsang that was being addressed by a religious preacher and his wife in Ratibhanpur village under the Sikandra Rau tehsil of the Hathras district.
The Uttar Pradesh government said an FIR will be lodged soon and strict action will be taken against the programme organisers.

Adityanath too expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed the district administration to arrange for proper treatment of those injured.
“Hon’ble Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government, Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary Ji, Shri Sandeep Singh Ji have left for the incident site and have directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state to reach the incident site. A team has been formed under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner, Aligarh and instructions have also been given to investigate the causes of the accident. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” UP CM Yogi Adityanath wrote in a post on the social media site X.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, also expressed her deepest condolences to those who lost their family members in the stampede. “The news of the death of many devotees including women and children in the accident in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is heart-rending. I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their family members and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” she wrote in a post on the social media site X.
