During his speech, PM Modi indirectly attacked Madhya Pradesh Congress President and former CM Kamal Nath and accused him of remaining indifferent towards development of Rewa area. (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday alleged that Congress kept village development at the lowest level of government priorities during its rule, and the party which ran the government for the longest time broke the trust of villages.
Addressing an event on occasion of the National Panchayati Raj Day in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Modi said, “Villagers, village schools, village roads, village electricity, village storage places, village economy, all were kept at the lowest level of government priorities during the Congress rule.”
During his speech, Modi indirectly attacked Madhya Pradesh Congress President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath and accused him of remaining indifferent towards development of Rewa area.
“main kaee baar sochata hoon ki Chhindavaada ke jin logon par, aapane lambe samay tak bharosa kiya, vo aapake vikaas ko lekar, is kshetr ke vikaas ko lekar itana udaaseen kyon rahe? (Many times, I wonder why the people of Chhindwara, whom you trusted for a long time, remained so indifferent towards your development, towards the development of this area?),” Modi asked, attacking Nath, who represented Chhindwara Parliamentary Constituency for 9 terms.
“The answer lies in the thinking of some political parties. After independence, the party which ran the government for the longest time broke the trust of our villages,” Modi said.
Modi said that by discriminating against villages where half of the population of the country resides, the country can not progress.
After 2014, the rural economy, facilities in villages and the interest of the villages were given the highest priority, Modi said.
Contrasting achievements of his government with that of the previous governments, Modi said that the finance commission granted less than 70,000 crores before 2014. But after 2014, this grant was increased to more than 2 lakh crores, he said.
He said that merely 6,000 Panchayat Bhawans were constructed a decade before 2014, whereas the present government constructed more than 30,000 Panchayat Bhawans in the last 8 years.
