Indian Railways Ticket Booking Capacity

During the Monsoon session of Parliament, Lok Sabha MPs Dr. Hemang Joshi and Naba Charan Majhi questioned Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding the per-minute booking capacity of the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). They further sought details on the required PRS capacity to meet the current level of passenger traffic.

Responding to this, Vaishnaw on Wednesday (August 20) said that capacity enhancement and technological upgradation is an ongoing process on Indian Railways. He stated that railways can book about 25,000 tickets per minute under the current PRS system. “Presently, the booking capacity of current PRS is about 25,000 tickets per minute,” he said.

The Railway Minister further said that railways has undertaken several measures for complete upgradation of PRS. “Indian Railway has undertaken complete upgradation of Passenger Reservation System. It involves upgradation and replacement of hardware, software, network equipment, security infrastructure and functionalities on new technology with design capable of handling new features,” the Union Minister added.

RailOne App Indian Railways

The minister also stated that newly launched RailOne mobile application enables passengers to book reserved as well as unreserved tickets. “Moreover, Railways has recently launched RailOne App. This App enables passengers to book reserved as well as unreserved tickets on mobile phone. This, in effect, brings the PRS facility to passengers’ palm,” he said.

RailOne App Launch Date

Launched on July 1, 2025, the RailOne app is all-in-one application with a user-friendly interface. The mobile app integrates all the passenger services such as: Unreserved UTS Tickets, Live train tracking, Grievance redressal, E-catering, Porter booking and Last-mile taxi, apart from ticket booking.
