NDA ally Minister from JDU pushes for mechanism to fast-track research for fishers and dairy farmers

According to sources, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan agreed to the proposal for the joint committee made by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh during a meeting Sunday.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has proposed a joint committee to ensure that the research and development work of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutions reach fishers, dairy farmers and entrepreneurs in time, generating employment opportunities.
According to sources, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan agreed to the proposal for the joint committee made by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh during a meeting Sunday.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Singh said, “The proposed initiative is aimed at extending the benefits of the ICAR research to the maximum farmers and villages to generate employment opportunities.”

“The Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying; Secretary, Fisheries; Director General, ICAR; and Deputy Director Generals in charge of Fisheries and Animal Science at ICAR will be members of the proposed committee. The senior-most secretary will be the chairman of the committee,” a source said.
A review meeting will be held every month by the Union Agriculture and Fisheries ministers, the source said, to decide on how the latest research by ICAR institutions in fisheries and animal husbandry can be taken to the maximum farmers, entrepreneurs and to commercialise it.
