Pakistani troops continued to violate the ceasefire and resorted to “unprovoked” firing for the fourth time Sunday night in the Kupwara and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC).
“During the night of April 27-28, 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite the Kupwara and Poonch districts,” said Defence PRO Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal.
Lt Col Bartwal said the Indian troops responded “swiftly and effectively”. There have been no casualties, he said, adding the details are being ascertained.
Since Thursday night, within hours after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty following the killing of 26 people in the terror attack in Pahalgam, Pakistani troops have been resorting to unprovoked firing at various places along the Line of Control in the Kashmir Valley only.
Significantly, the latest spate of unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops has come despite the Brigade Commander flag meeting — the second during the current year, along the LoC in Poonch on April 10. According to sources, the Indian Army flagged its protest over recent infiltration attempts, ceasefire violations, and IED explosions along the LoC.
In the first meeting held on February 21 this year, the two sides reportedly agreed to maintain the sanctity of the LoC, and the ceasefire agreement reached on February 25, 2021.
