The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), A K Mishra on Wednesday issued an order to tranquillise a tiger that has recently killed two people in three days in Amravati district in Maharashtra.

“I have issued the order to capture the tiger by tranquillisation,” Mishra told The Indian Express. “I have directed the Chief Conservator of Forest of Amravati Pravin Chauhan to work on the plan as per the system we have developed at Pandharkawda to track T1. This system had now fallen in place and is working very well,” Mishra said.

Additional PCCF Sunil Limaye has also rushed to the troubled area of Mangrul Dastagir and is supervising the operation. “We have deployed ten trap cameras and will be deploying 40 more in a day or two. We have made two tranquillisation teams and eight tracking teams of five members each. We are also doing awareness to prevent the people from venturing into troubled area,” he added.

As reported earlier, the tiger is about two years old and has apparently been separated from his mother which is believed to be the one staying on the premises of Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station along with four cubs. “It does seem to be from there but we will confirm it in some time,” Limaye said.

The tiger had walked more than 100 km from Chandrapur and has been moving through farmlands via Bhadrawati and Warora in Chandrapur district, Hinganghat and Pulgaon in Wardha district before finally crossing over to Amravati district.

“He is currently very much in the troubled area, where there is no forest. But if he moves further in the direction of Pohra, then there is forest there with good prey base. Then there won’t be any cause for concern,” Limaye said.

Meanwhile, there is no fresh development in the T1 mission although the tigress is found to be moving in a particular area competing 3-4 forest compartments.
