One person was killed and at least three policemen suffered injuries in a clash between two communities in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district, less than 70 km from state capital, on Saturday. According to police, the clash took place in the aftermath of a fight between two school students over a petty issue. "One of the students went home and informed his family and neighbours that he had been attacked. Afterwards, a crowd went to the locality where the other student lives. What followed was a violent clash between the Hindu and Muslim communities, during which there was heavy stone pelting," said an officer at the spot. One of the injured policemen sustained a head injury while trying to stop the rioting. "We have imposed Section 144 to ensure there is no unlawful assembly on the streets. The situation is tense but under control. The collector and senior police officers are at the spot. We have registered an FIR for murder with rioting at Saja police station and arrested 11 people. Another FIR for rioting against the other group will be registered," said an officer.
