Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), a conglomerate of over two dozen religious organisations and institutions in Kashmir, Monday condemned an alleged incident in Zadoora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, wherein Armymen entered a local mosque and forced people to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during pre-dawn prayers on Saturday. In a statement Monday, the MMU said the “silence maintained by the authorities in this regard is unacceptable". The conglomerate of religious outfits asked the administration to clarify their position “as the religious sentiments of Muslims of J&K have been badly hurt”. Ex-Chief Minister & National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah, meanwhile, told reporters in Anantnag: “It is evident that such an incident has happened. The Imam of the mosque will not lie…. The person responsible should be identified and given severe punishment.” Earlier, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti had sought a probe into the alleged incident.
