‘Obscene remarks’ against actor Honey Rose: Kerala court sends businessman Boby Chemmanur to 14-day judicial custody

Chemmanur was produced before the Ernakulam Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court II on Thursday afternoon. Seeking bail for Chemmanur, his counsel argued that he had not committed any wrongdoing. However, the prosecution strongly opposed the plea, stating there was substantial evidence to suggest he had committed a serious offence.

After hearing the arguments, the court sent the businessman to a 14-day judicial remand.

Rose had already named 30 persons who had made alleged sexist comments against her on social media.

On Tuesday, Rose filed the complaint against Chemmanur, who is also known as BoChe. Police swiftly acted upon the complaint and rushed a team to Wayanad to nab the jewelry chain owner. Besides, the police took the actor to a magistrate court to record her statement under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Rose said the decision to take legal action was made after consulting members of family and well wishers. She also spoke to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who promised stern action on the complaint. “I thank the state government, the chief minister and the Kerala police,’’ she said.

“In this modern time, a gun or knife is not necessary to kill a person. Cruel and heinous attacks from a bunch of social media profiles and a planned campaign would be enough. If the social media hooliganism has a leadership, the attack will be sharper,’’ she said.

Expressing relief after Chemmanur’s arrest on Wednesday, Honey Rose said, “Over the years, I have gone through many traumatic days and I have faced depression. He had made several comments with double meaning. I was being stalked and targeted repeatedly and my silence might have given the wrong impression that I am enjoying this… I should have reacted much earlier.”
