Nuh violence fallout: 44 FIRs, 70 in police custody; Haryana CM Khattar says rioters won’t be spared

Haryana Police have taken around 70 people into custody after lodging 44 FIRs in connection with the violence in Nuh and neighbouring districts since Monday, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said after a meeting at his official residence in Chandigarh Tuesday. He also assured strict action against the rioters.

Talking about the violence that began in Nuh on Monday afternoon, Khattar said: “No rioters will be spared. As per information, as many as five persons have lost their lives till now. Compensation will be given to the families of the deceased.” While two of the deceased were home guards, three were civilians.

Terming the incidents very unfortunate, the chief minister said: “Some people attacked a social yatra – which is carried out every year – in a bid to disturb it. The policemen were also targeted. Certainly, it appears to be part of a big conspiracy. Incidents of arson took place at several locations and vehicles were set on fire. Action will also be taken against people who were from areas other than Nuh but were part of this conspiracy, after they are identified.”

Khattar added that 16 companies of central forces and 30 companies of Haryana Police arrived in Nuh and restored normalcy. “Normalcy has also been restored in neighbouring districts of Palwal, Gurgaon and Faridabad following minor incidents. Peace has been restored in all these districts. Still, the curfew is on (in Nuh) as a precautionary measure, apart from the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in some districts,” the chief minister added.
