The North East Frontier Railway (NFR) on Thursday suspended a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) for allegedly assaulting a woman passenger on board the Lokmanya Tilak Express on Tuesday.
Speaking to indianexpess.com, an NFR public relations officer informed that the woman along with a few others was travelling from New Haflong to Agartala without a ticket.
“HE (TTE) caught her group travelling without a ticket and when she was asked to produce it, she resisted. The TTE was suspended,” the PRO informed. However, he declined to comment further on the incident.
Meanwhile, a purported video of the assault was posted from the CPI(M) Tripura official Facebook page. In the video, the woman passenger is seen talking to the TTE. The woman passenger then waves her hand at the TTE and, seconds later, the latter pushes the woman passenger away.
The youth organisation of the CPI(M) – Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) – submitted a deputation to the Agartala Railway Station manager on the issue earlier on Thursday.
“While the central government is raising slogans of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, a TTE is assaulting a woman passenger on board a moving train… We have submitted a deputation demanding action against the TTE concerned,” a DYFI leader told reporters after submitting the deputation.
Sources said the woman passenger did not lodge any formal complaint with the railway police or any other authority regarding the incident.
