The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday issued summons to Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Ranjeet Srivastava for allegedly making offensive remarks against the Hathras victim.

The NCW directed Srivastava to appear before it by October 26 and personally give an explanation for his remarks.

“He is not fit to be called a leader of any party. He is showing a primitive and sick mindset,” NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, the NCW tweeted, “@NCWIndia strongly condemns the offensive and defamatory remarks made by political leader #RanjeetSrivastava regarding the #Hathras victim. The Commission has sent him a notice directing him to appear before NCW on October 26th at 11 AM to give an explanation.”

In a video circulating on social media, Srivastava, a BJP leader from Barabanki, is seen making allegedly offensive remarks against the Hathras woman.
