‘A moment of divine connection’: PM Modi visits Maha Kumbh, takes a dip at Triveni Sangam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the nearly 55 lakh people who took a dip at the Maha Kumbh Mela at Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj by Wednesday noon.

Maha Kumbh Mela Updates: Wearing a saffron-coloured jacket, blue track pants and a ‘rudraksha’ chain around his neck, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Wednesday and offered prayers to Goddess Ganga. PM Modi was among the nearly 55 lakh people who took a dip at the Maha Kumbh Mela at Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj by noon.
After arriving at the Prayagraj airport at around 10 am, PM Modi reached Arail Ghat and went to the Sangam Nose – the strip of land at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati – in a boat along with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Later, PM Modi ventured into the water alone, took a dip at the Sangam and recited mantras.
“Blessed to be at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The Snana at the Sangam is a moment of divine connection, and like the crores of others, who have taken part in it, I was also filled with a spirit of devotion. May Maa Ganga bless all with peace, wisdom, good health and harmony,” PM Modi said in a post on X, soon after taking the dip.
Officials said that during his visit, PM Modi offered “Arghya” to the sun god and offered prayers to the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. After the dip in the Sangam, PM Modi performed a puja wearing a black kurta, a saffron stole and a Himachali cap.
Local priests said that PM Modi had taken the dip on the special occasion of Bhishm Ashtami during the ongoing Gupta Navratri, where along with prayers to Goddess Durga, offerings are made to ancestors as well.
Sources said that PM Modi’s visit lasted for about two hours. Officials claimed that pilgrims were allowed to take a dip at different temporary ghats as usual even when PM Modi was taking a holy dip at the Sangam.
While this is PM Modi’s first visit to the Maha Kumbh after the January 29 stampede, he had last visited the event on December 13 last year when he inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore for Prayagraj.
