A day after BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri made offensive remarks against Danish Ali in Parliament, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met the BSP MP at the latter’s residence in New Delhi on Friday.

In a show of solidarity, Gandhi hugged the Amroha MP, in the presence of Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.

The Wayanad MP reiterated his ‘Nafrat ke bazaar mein mohabbat ki dukaan’ catchphrase in a social media post, declaring his support to Ali.

The Congress also shared photos of the meeting on social media platform X and wrote,”BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri had insulted Danish Ali ji and called him extremely indecent and unparliamentary abuses, while two former BJP ministers kept laughing obscenely. This shameful and petty action of Ramesh Bidhuri is a stain on the dignity of the House. Congress along with the entire country is strongly against such mentality of hatred and hatred in the temple of democracy.”

Last night, BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali triggered strong reaction from the Opposition parties, with Congress calling for his suspension from the Lok Sabha.

Ali, an MP from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, told The Indian Express: “The BJP MP was speaking in the House. During the speech, he said some people wanted Prime Minister Modi to die like a dog. I intervened and asked him what he was saying and that no one said that about the honourable Prime Minister. Then he called me names which included ‘terrorist’. I want to ask RSS chief Mohan Bhagwatji, what is taught in their shakhas? Is this what they learn in Prime Minister Modiji’s pathshala?”

Following the uproar, the Speaker of the Lower House expunged the remarks, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh apologised immediately for it.
