Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor: The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is rapidly progressing on the construction of India’s first bullet train corridor. The country’s first high-speed train will operate along the 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, which passes through Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The Ministry of Railways has targeted to operationalise first section of MAHSR corridor by 2027. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the first section of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, stretching from Surat to Bilimora, will be operational in 2027.

“Work is progressing rapidly, and the Surat–Bilimora section of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will be the first to open in 2027,” he stated.
The Railway Minister further added that the bullet train services will be extended to Thane by 2028 and will finally reach Mumbai by 2029.

The fare of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train will be kept affordable for middle-class passengers. “The fare structure will remain within reach of the middle class,” the Railway Minister said.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train corridor will have 12 stations. These are: Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project is under execution with technical and financial assistance from Government of Japan.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Completion
The Ministry of Railways has targeted to complete entire MAHSR project by December 2029. “The Gujarat portion of the corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati is planned to be completed by Dec, 2027. The entire project (Maharashtra to Sabarmati section) is expected to be completed by Dec, 2029,” the minister replied in Lok Sabha in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
