IMD Monsoon Update, Assam Flood Highlights: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state’s flood situation was ‘under control’ but everything depends on the weather conditions during the next few days. The affected people being drawn up for their rehabilitation, along with the repair of damaged infrastructure, he said.

Heavy rains continue to batter the Northeast as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram continue to be on high alert. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall this week.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam continued to deteriorate with eight more people losing their lives and more than 16.25 lakh people reeling under the deluge across 27 districts, an official bulletin said. Till Tuesday, more than 11.3 lakh people were suffering in flood waters across 23 districts of the state.

Weather in other parts of the country: According to the weather department Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Gujarat region are likely to witness isolated very heavy rainfall for the next 3 day, till this weekend.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state's flood situation was 'under control' but everything depends on the weather conditions during the next few days.

The affected people are being provided relief and plans are being drawn up for their rehabilitation along with the repair of damaged infrastructure, he said.

Monsoon Weather Today Live: Punjab chief secretary directs deputy commissioners to ensure completion of flood protection work

Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma on Thursday directed deputy commissioners to visit vulnerable spots in their districts again and ensure that flood protection work had been satisfactorily completed.

He directed the officials to remain in touch with locals in villages near the vulnerable points during the entire monsoon season.

Verma held a meeting via videoconferencing with all deputy commissioners, according to an official statement.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday asked the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to prepare a Rs 200 crore action plan to mitigate urban flooding in the state capital.

Many low-lying areas in Bhubaneswar were flooded recently after heavy rain, which also caused traffic snarl on roads.

The state government has decided to create 10 new units of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) from the present 20 to strengthen disaster management, CM Majhi said.

Monsoon Weather Today Live: Widespread rain to continue in Karnataka till July 12

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) on Thursday predicted widespread, moderate to heavy rains with isolated places experiencing very heavy rains till July 12 in the state.

C S Patil, director of India Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, has said coastal and western ghat regions have received heavy rainfall so far in July, especially Agumbe which registered 34 mm rainfall on July 3 alone.

Delhi Rains Live: Delhi Zoo implements ayurvedic methods to safeguard animals during monsoon

Delhi Zoo authorities are using ayurvedic methods, including neem oil, turmeric and quicklime, to keep the animals healthy and free from bacterial and viral infections during the rainy season.

"Neem oil acts as an herbal disinfectant and fly repellent. Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties, will be used to treat itchy skin conditions, infections and wounds. Turmeric dust will be applied to lesions and foot sores to expedite healing," Delhi Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar told PTI.

Heavy rains often lead to waterlogging in certain parts of the zoo which create breeding grounds for mosquitoes. To counter this, quicklime (chuna) will be sprinkled in these areas to prevent mosquito proliferation, Kumar said.

Monsoon Weather Today Live: Amid heavy rains, 5600 more pilgrims begin Amarnath Yatra

Despite heavy rains, over 5,600 pilgrims set off from Jammu towards the twin basecamps, Baltal and Palagam, of the Amarnath cave shrine on Thursday, officials said.

Assam Floods Live: 17 animals drown, 72 rescued in Kaziranga National Park

According to news agency PTI, 17 animals have died so far due to drowning while 72 others rescued from flood waters inside the famed Kaziranga National Park, an official said on Thursday.

The animal deaths include 11 hog deer due to drowning in the park and five during treatment.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to restrict the movement of vehicular traffic on NH-37 (New NH-715) and its speed to between 20 to 40 km/hour is in force.

Delhi Rains Live: Rains cause traffic disruptions across Delhi

Rain in the national capital, first a spell in the morning and another around midday led to significant traffic disruptions in several areas. 

The weather department, in their 12 pm notification, said light-intensity rain and drizzle will occur at a few places in South Delhi and South-East Delhi in the next two hours.

Delhi's minimum temperature settled at 24.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, the weather department said.

Monsoons Weather Live: Heavy rain causes road closures and disruptions in Himachal, 'orange' alert issued

Heavy rains have affected Himachal Pradesh, leading to the closure of 115 roads, including 107 in Mandi, and disrupting 212 transformers.

An orange alert was issued by the Shimla meteorological office, warning of heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning until Friday, and a yellow warning for heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.

The Chandigarh-Manali four-lane road is experiencing cracks and sinking, forcing one-way traffic.

The rains have caused damage to plantations, crops, structures, and traffic disruptions. Shimla received 84 mm of rain, while Sundernagar was the wettest at 111 mm. Narkanda recorded the lowest temperature at 13.4°C, and Bhuntar the highest at 35.6°C.

Heavy rain triggers landslides in Arunachal Pradesh, disrupting communication in several districts

Heavy rainfall has triggered landslides in seven districts of Arunachal Pradesh, including Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang, West Siang, Shi Yomi, Leparada, and Upper Subansiri, disrupting surface communication.

A significant portion of NH-13 along the Pasighat-Pangin-Aalo road is blocked by a landslide, while the Nigmoi-Aalo bypass road is also affected.

In Upper Siang, the strategic Tuting sub-division has been cut off due to landslides. The restoration of roads is underway but may take a week, weather permitting. Additionally, the rain has disrupted the water supply in Aalo and Likabali townships. (PTI)

Rain abates after record showers but waterlogging woes remain

Even as the intensity of rain has abated after Delhi witnessed record showers on Friday, waterlogging woes continued to haunt several parts across the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday.

Delhi on Friday recorded 228.1 mm of rain, which is the highest that the city has registered in a day in June in 88 years. On Wednesday, however, Delhi and neighbouring Haryana recorded 29 per cent deficient rainfall, as per the data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Rain brings relief to Delhi, more showers expected: IMD

Parts of the national capital experienced rain on Thursday morning, with the minimum temperature dropping to 24.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the seasonal average. The city received 9 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The weather department predicts a generally cloudy sky with light rain for the day, and the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 34 degrees Celsius. At 8:30 am, humidity was at 94 percent. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 78, placing it in the 'satisfactory' category. An AQI of 51 to 100 is considered satisfactory.

Flood situation worsens in Assam; eight deaths take toll to 46, over 16 lakh affected

Eight people lost their lives on Wednesday as Assam continues to reel under severe floods, taking the total number of flood related deaths in the state this year to 46.

As of Wednesday evening, a total population of 16.25 lakh across 2800 villages in 29 districts have been affected by the floods. The worst affected districts in the state are Nagaon and Darrang in Central Assam and Karimganj in the Barak Valley.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the media said that the focus will is on assessing the damage at the earliest so that all possible help can be extended to the affected people by August 15.
