Modi’s Kerala promise: ‘Will win double-digit seats in Lok Sabha’

In Kerala on his third visit this year, PM Narendra Modi hit out at the ‘double standards’ of the Congress and the CPI(M) ‘which fight each other in Kerala but are united in Delhi’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday that the BJP would win double-digit seats from Kerala in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Modi was addressing a rally of BJP workers to mark the conclusion of a month-long, state-wide padayatra led by party state president K Surendran.

PM Modi said that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kerala gave a two-digit vote share for the BJP. “This time, the party will win two-digit seats from Kerala. The Opposition parties have realised their defeat in the elections of 2024. They have lost mental balance. They do not have a road map for the country’s development. Their only agenda is to utter abuse against Modi. I am sure Kerala will stand with BJP this time,” he said.

This was PM Modi’s third visit to Kerala in less than two months.

PM Modi said the huge crowd that had joined the Surendran-led padayatra has made the BJP’s target of 370 seats in the Lok Sabha easier. “Modi is committed to fulfil your expectations, that is Modi’s guarantee,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the BJP-led Union government has never shown any discrimination towards Kerala. In the last 10 years, he said, the BJP government has ensured Kerala’s development and the wise people of the state know this.

“In the third term of the Modi government, India will become the third largest force in the world. That is Modi’s guarantee. The third Modi government will intensify the fight against corruption. In the last 10 years, more than 25 crore people could be uplifted from poverty,” he added.

Referring to various developmental projects and welfare schemes launched during his regime, PM Modi said despite the non-cooperation of the Kerala government, the Centre has given top priority to the state. The government has changed the exam system to enable job seekers to write exams in regional languages, including Malayalam, he said.

Attacking the Congress and the CPI(M), which are part of the Opposition INDIA alliance, PM Modi said, “What is the track record of Congress and CPI(M)? For decades, Congress had laid down the interest of the country for the sake of a family. In Kerala, CPI(M) is also on the Congress path of family rule. Congress and CPI(M), which fight each other in Kerala, are united in Delhi. I have no doubt that in the coming elections, people will give a fitting reply to this double standard. This election would be an opportunity for the creation of a new Kerala. BJP slogan is ‘Sabka Vikas, Sabka Saath and Sabka Vishwas’.” The third BJP government will also function on these themes, he added.
