Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma has said that the state government will provide monetary assistance to surrendered Maoists, who were forced to undergo vasectomy, for having a test tube baby if they wish so.
Several people who join the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) are forced to undergo vasectomy before they get married, said an official.
Answering a question from the media on surrendered Maoists who are forced to undergo vasectomy and wish to become parents, Sharma said on Friday, “There is a provision in the rehabilitation policy where any sister or man (surrendered Maoists) who have come to mainstream and want to become parents…then assistance will be provided for having a test tube baby.”
He added that the state government is planning to conduct mass marriage functions for surrendered Maoists.
Since the latest anti-naxal operations began in 2024, as many as 1,450 Maoists have surrendered. A total of 415 Maoists were gunned down by security forces in the state since 2024 and nearly 1,400 Maoists were arrested. Also, 19 security personnel and 22 civilians have been killed during the anti-Maosist operations during the period.
