The police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on Tuesday arrested an alleged Maoist supporter who they said was involved in violent operations against security personnel.

The police identified the arrested man as Sainu alias Sannu Amlu Mattami, 38, a resident of Poyarkothi in Bhamragad taluka. His arrest in Bhamragad followed information received by the police intelligence cell, Pranhita, on Monday that a person had been roaming around the area to conduct reconnaissance on security force personnel.

When the Bhamragad police and the CRPF detained Sainu, he allegedly gave evasive answers to their questions. During subsequent interrogation, the police said, he was revealed to be a hardcore Maoist supporter. The interrogation also revealed a possibility that he had active involvement in destructive activities and crimes and had entered the Bhamragad area specifically to carry out reconnaissance with the goal of causing sabotage, they added.
