Heavy firing in Manipur’s Pallel, Meira Paibis block road

After the firing began, a crowd gathered in the area and Meitei women vigilantes, known as Meira Paibis, started blocking the road.

“Additional security forces have been mobilised. The situation is unfolding at the moment,” the source said.

On Wednesday there had been a heated confrontation between a mob consisting of thousands of people and security forces at the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur district in which dozens of people had been injured. Following this, Thursday had been a quiet day with the Bishnupur-Churachandpur border peaceful as well.
