Ramveer, 23, is a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana. (Special Arrangement)The Jaipur Police on Saturday arrested a key suspect, Ramveer Jat, in connection with the murder of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
Gogamedi, who also had 30 police cases against him, was gunned down in his home by two assailants on December 12, leading to widespread protests across the state. The two shooters were identified as Rohit Rathore of Nagaur and Nitin Fauji of Mahendragarh, Haryana.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that Ramveer, 23, a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana, had arranged for Nitin’s stay in Jaipur.
Jaipur’s Additional Police Commissioner K C Bishnoi said that Ramveer is a close friend of Nitin and their villages in Mahendragarh are close to each other. After clearing 12th, Nitin joined the armed forces in 2019-20 while Ramveer studied BSc at St. Wilfred’s PG College in Jaipur, between 2017 and 2020, and then MSc in Mathematics from Vivek PG College, also in Jaipur, between 2021-23.
The ACP said that after appearing for his final exams in April 2023, Ramveer returned to his village while Nitin was home on leave.
On November 9 this year, Nitin and some of his accomplices had fired on a police team from Sadar police station in Mahendragarh and escaped. While absconding, Nitin had sent his friend Ramveer to Jaipur on November 19.
Bishnoi said Ramveer arranged for Nitin’s stay in hotels as well as at the apartment of one of his acquaintances in Jaipur. After Gogamedi’s murder, Ramveer helped the duo escape by taking them on a motorcycle beyond Bagru toll plaza where they boarded a Nagaur depot Rajasthan roadways bus. The ACP said Ramveer was picked up from his home and subsequently arrested after questioning.
The two main accused — Rohit and Nitin — are still absconding with the Rajasthan Police announcing a Rs 5 lakh reward on their arrest or any information leading to their arrest. A Special Investigation Team led by ADGP Crime Dinesh MN has also been constituted to investigate the case.
